NASEBY HISTORICAL SOCIETY
2010 TALKS and WALKS PROGRAMME

On 3rd February from 7-30pm we have our 2010/2011 renewal/sign-up session. This year's fees have increased to £12/£20 for Single/Family membership but given our planned/varied programme of talks and walks this is still very good value. Sign-up will be followed by a very entertaining talk...............plus..............please see detailed below, some advance notice and dates for the launch of a major Northamptonshire historical project in Naseby .

Wednesday 3rd February:  “Myths and Legends of Papillon Hall" an illustrated talk by Barbara Burbridge – Village Hall (Upstairs) - doors open 7-30pm for membership renewal/sign-up followed at 8pm by Barbara's talk.   Barbara's talk centres around the now ruined Papillon Hall which was built in 1622.  She will relate some folklore tales about the Hall's famous owners including David Papillon, who's mistress was allegedly kept 'prisoner' in the east attic of the Hall and is said to have died there in suspicious circumstances in 1715. There is no formal record of her death or of her subsequent place of burial, but the skeleton of a woman was indeed found within the internal walls during alterations to the hall in 1903.  Why not join us to hear more about some unpleasant events and very ghostly goings-on, which have allegedly occurred over the past 300 years.
